IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION:

The Village of Fredericktown uses the Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) to collect their income tax. The following information provides you with your basic filing/paying requirements. Additional information, registration, filing, and/or paying on-line and forms are available on RITA’s website, www.ritaohio.com

Village Tax Rate: 1%

Village Tax Credit: 50% (effective January 1, 2015)

The Village of Fredericktown has MANDATORY filing. You must file if you:
•Are a resident or partial-year resident of Fredericktown and are 18 years of age or older
•Are a non-resident who is employed or doing business in Fredericktown AND Fredericktown tax was not withheld from your pay (or not enough tax was withheld)
•Every corporation, partnership,trust, LLC, or estate whether a resident or non-resident that conducts business in Fredericktown

If you are permanently retired or disabled, you are required to file an exemption form with the Village. Once this exemption form is properly filed, you no longer are required to submit any further paperwork unless your tax situation changes. If you are not permanently retired or disabled but have no taxable income, you are required and must continue to file an exemption form with the City each year.

Due Date for Tax Returns and Extensions Requests:
•Calendar year taxpayers – April 15
•Fiscal year taxpayers – 15th day of the 4th month after the close of the fiscal period

Extensions:

An extension for filing will only be granted if you have an extension for filing the federal tax return. If you have any type of tax delinquency with the Village, your request will be denied. The extension is for filing the tax return only. If you owe tax, you must also make payment for the anticipated tax liability at the time you file the extension.

Estimates:

If local tax is not withheld from your pay and/or you owe tax of $100 or more, you are required to file a declaration of estimated tax. The declaration is generally due the same time as your income tax return and the payments are due as follows:
•Calendar year taxpayers
1st quarter – April 15
2nd quarter – July 31
3rd quarter – October 31
4th quarter – January 31
•Fiscal year taxpayers
1st quarter – 15th day of the 4th month after the close of the fiscal period
2nd quarter – 15th day of the 6th month after the close of the fiscal period
3rd quarter – 15th day of the 9th month after the close of the fiscal period
4th quarter – 15th day of the 12th month after the close of the fiscal period

Employer Withholding:

Each employer within or doing business withe the Village of Fredericktown shall deduct at the time of payment of such salaries, wages, commissions or other compensation, the tax of 1% of the qualifying wages due by the employer to an employee.
